Vocabulary Synonyms Context Based

Context-based synonyms test your ability to choose the word that best matches the meaning of a given word as used in a particular sentence.

What are Context-Based Synonyms?

A synonym is a word with a similar meaning. However, in many exam questions, the correct synonym depends on how the word is used in the sentence.

For example, the word light can have different meanings:

  • Light bag means a bag that is not heavy.
  • Light colour means a pale colour.
  • Light meal means a small meal.
  • Light a candle means to ignite a candle.
Quick idea: Do not choose the synonym by looking at the word alone. Read the full sentence and understand the exact meaning.
